In a hurry

E. 10th St between 2nd and 1st Aves (E. Vllg)

Appetizer at Curry Ya
I was supposed to have ramen with Ryan at Rai Rai Ken next door but we decided on Curry Ya, which is owned by the same owners. It's a tiny space just like its predecessor, with about 8 seats along a bar/counter. You can choose from plain, chicken, mixed seafood, Berkshire pork or other curries. We chose the Berkshire pork. Ryan got the dinner set, which for $6 extra got him a special appetizer plate, pictured above, and a drink or dessert. He opted for lychee lassi, which in itself was dessert-like and rich.

The plate of appetizers included (from left) pumpkin quiche, wakame and fried fish. All very good except for the fish, which was served cold. I found this a little odd but I guess more efficient for a quick app.

Berkshire Pork Curry at Curry Ya
The Berkshire pork, which came with its own pot of bubbling curry which you spoon over the meat and into the rice crater. The pork was fried just right, not greasy at all and still juicy. The curry was thick and tasty, and if you finish your rice and still have curry left over, they offer a free serving of extra rice.

On the side come little dishes of condiments such as raisins, tiny pickled pearl onions and pickled ginger/radish.

Great cold weather food at a non-assuming spot. Will definitely be back.
