Sunburnt Cow
Avenue C at 9th Street (East Village)

Alexis: This weekend we had brunch with Laura at the Sunburnt Cow in the East Village. I haven't been here in about 2 years, when I came with Kumi and Ryan for dinner. It's an Australian joint, a little gimmicky but with solidly good food. (Same owners as Bondi Road in the West Village). For brunch they have an excellent deal: anything off the brunch menu plus unlimited "Moo Mosas" or "Moo Marys" for $15. I chose the Queen Adelaide for an extra $5, which is basically an Eggs Benedict with crab cakes instead of English muffins.

The food took a while to arrive, but we were steadily pumped with our free drinks. The Moo Marys were delicious, a thick, spicy, chunky mixture. The only thing missing was an olive. Moo Mosas were doled out generously, as everyone walked around with pitchers of the mixture.

My meal was decent, though a bit on the cool side. Included was a small salad of mixed greens and some lukewarm homefries. The crab cakes were great, with very little (if any) bread crumbs and eggs poached to perfection.

A great deal for brunch, but they need to keep the food hotter and add more choices to the brunch menu.
