Franklin between Lexington and Greene, Clinton Hill
Alexis: I'm eating more good stuff than I can upload. And Mr. Saultee is still living at a Southerner's pace and can't keep up :P
We were in Clinton Hill this weekend to walk around our new neighborhood for a little bit. Stopped in at Heavenly Crumbs, where we got a sampling of cupcakes: red velvet w/ cream cheese icing, yellow w/ French vanilla icing, yellow w/ triple berry icing, chocolate w/ raspberry icing. We ate the yellow-French vanilla right there. The cupcakes are kept in the fridge which keeps the icing from drying up like Magnolia's. It's also not too sweet and super creamy. The red velvet - really really good. My only complaint is that the cake itself was a little dry. Maybe because we went close to closing time on a Sunday. I'll definitely give it another shot, only a 10 minute walk from our new pad.
Alex: Im getting diabetes in 2 months.
10/17/07 Edit: You have to let the cupcakes warm up to room temp, which takes about 30-45 minutes. Then you can experience them in all their moisty goodness.
Another little gem, only two blocks from us is Locanda Vini e Olii. Some highlights from the menu:
Lamb Prosciutto w/ D'anjou pear marmalade
Seared Bison & pear carpaccio
Charcuterie from the sea: Octopus soppressata and tuna salami
Smoked Prosciutto w/ apple and mint salad
Salsiccia de Anattra (duck sausage) & foie gras w/ apple, blackberry and onion compote
I could exist on their small plates alone. PLUS they serve Moretti, which I prefer to Peroni (not on the menu, thanks very much).
